Referee's Signals

Referee’s signals inform everyone of the status of the game

and identify penalties called on the field.

For visual illustrations of the referee's signals, click on

    Official Football Signals Page 1 and Official Football Signals Page 2 or

Descriptions followed by (NFHS) apply to high school rules only,

while (NCAA) applies to college rules only.

All other descriptions apply to both high school and college rules.

For more detailed descriptions or interpretations,

please consult the high school football rules published by

National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

NOTE:  State associations may modify NFHS rules.
